Welcome to our site!  Take a look around and tell us what you think.
We've designed these pages to provide information about our Living
History Unit and the men we portray, the Confederate cavalry troopers
of the western theater that served under General Nathan Bedford
Forrest, and the men that fought for the 5th Tennessee Cavalry U.S. We
do both with pride in honoring our ancestors. Weather blue or gray, the
War of Northern Aggression is a part of history that should not be
forgotten. Many great men gave their lives during this time of our history
and their acts should be honored.

Our units is bound together in the belief that the preservation of tradition
and heritage of the old "Horse Cavalry" for future
generations is deeply important.  We treasure sharing this unique
experience with other reenactment groups, SCV Camps, and all people
who find themselves curious about this dark period of American history.

Together we have the numbers to make a difference.
We proudly support the Division Cavalry Brigade and The Alabama
Division throughout the year.  Additionally, we support The 1st Florida
Battalion in several events.

The Lightning Brigade
Thanks to one of the ancestors of Elias Greene Montgomery, Kathryn L. Paintin of Baton
Rouge, LA. We have now identified another Great Man in the Reunion picture on page 2 of
the real Escort.

From an Email sent from Mrs. Paintin

“He was born in 1846, which means he was only 15 when the war broke out.  He rode three
years with Forrest and participated in the Battle of Brice's Crossroads and others.  He told
of begging food and water for himself and his horse.  Thank goodness he survived, or my
many cousins and I wouldn't be here.

He died in 1926, at the age of 80, coming home in his buggy from a church picnic.  The horse
knew the way home.  He had just written personally to Henry Ford, explaining that he was a
Confederate veteran and had no money, but would Mr. Ford please send him a car.

He had six children.  My maternal grandfather was Oliver C. Montgomery, one of his sons.
My mother was Lucy Montgomery Paintin.”
